2007 Fundraising Events
During June 2007 ALHR held movie screenings in Canberra and Melbourne in order to raise funds for ALHR activities. Held during Refugee Week, the screenings showcased “Lucky Miles”, a candid, touching and thought-provoking comedy illustrating the hardships faced by many refugees in Australia.

Precis of "Lucky Miles"

"Lucky Miles" is a black comedy about distance, difference dud maps.

It's 1990 and an Indonesian fishing boat abandons Iraqi and Cambodian refugees in a remote part of Western Australia. Whilst most are quickly caught by officials, three men with nothing in common but their misfortune and determination escape arrest and begin an epic journey into the heart of Australia. Pursued by an army reservist unit, the three men wander deeper into the desert, despearately searching for civilisation amongst the stones of the Pilbara.
