ALHR depends on its members for input and action to practise and promote awareness of international human rights standards in Australia. Its members are involved through the National and State/Territory Committees. The State/Territory Committees regularly contact members in their state or territory to find members who are keen to assist with ALHRs work on particular issues.

Membership of ALHR is open to individuals who are:

  • hold a law degree or equivalent from an Australian institution; and/or
  • admitted or qualified to practice as a legal practitioner in Australia; and/or
  • working in a legal capacity in Australia at the time of applying for membership; and/or
  • teaching or studying law or law-related subjects leading to tertiary qualifications to practice law.

There is no organisational membership of ALHR. Membership is free.
