Northern Territory
To officially launch the NT branch of ALHR, on 13 October the NT team held a panel discussion on human rights in the Northern Territory, sponsored by De Silva Hebron Barristers and Solicitors . The panel featured The Hon. Justice Jenny Blokland of the NT Supreme Court, Jeswynn Yogaratnam, Lecturer in Human Rights Law at Charles Darwin Uni and myself, and was able facilitated by Jonathon Hunyor, Principal Legal Officer of the North Australian Aboriginal Justice Agency. Thanks to Claire Henderson, Adrienne Walters and Will Crawford for their work putting this event, and the NT Branch, together.
Victoria
On 30 November the VIC branch hosted a seminar on international aid and development, featuring Tim Costello, CEO of World Vision Australia, Oxfam's Andrew Hewett and our very own Susan Harris Rimmer
Queensland
The Qld team have been doing some great work on submissions and advocacy on the incarceration of 17-year-olds in Queensland prisons. We will post more updates on this issue in the final edition of the newsletter for the year.
Western Australia
Tiffany Henderson ably represented ALHR at the Commonwealth Peoples Forum held as part of CHOGM in Perth at the end of last month.
