Presidential presentations

I have had the honour and pleasure of speaking at a number of events and conferences in the last couple of months.
From 6-8 October Brisbane was the host of the Amnesty International Conference, which this year marked the 50th anniversary of AI. I gave a workshop paper on 'The Human Rights Framework: What Does it Offer?', and participated in a panel discussion on 'Human Rights in the Twenty First Century: Challenges and Opportunities'. Speaking notes for both presentations are on the website. A few days earlier, the Amnesty Qld & Northern NSW branch organised an excellent Indigenous Rights Conference, at which I gave a presentation on the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP).
As Human Rights Day approaches on 10 December, and the end of the year draws to a close I have been reflecting on our organisation's wonderful, and broad-ranging work. In the introduction to this newsletter I mentioned an op-ed I wrote for Online Opinion, which draws a number of these themes together.
For those of you in Brisbane, I am speaking at a forum on 10 December organised by the Refugee Action Collective to mark the 63rd anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
For Brisbane residents, then, key details are as follows:
ON UNITED NATIONS HUMAN RIGHTS DAY 2011:
